Richard Annandale
Regulatory
Consultant

“Leading light. . . applauded by clients for his “brilliant mind and his expert advice” Chambers UK, A Client’s Guide to the Legal Profession 2006

My Background

Articled Towns Needham, Manchester; qualified 1977. Arrived at Bevan Ashford 1985.  Partner since 1993. Partner, Bevan Brittan LLP 2004.

What I do

I spend most of my time advising and supporting NHS bodies on serious governance issues. Such issues often lead to changes in national standards of clinical practice and governance.

I also cover a number of healthcare regulatory areas. A current area of particular interest in the UK is the regulation of the use of human tissue and organs by two Human Tissue Acts.

Some examples

I worked on three Group Actions involving the treatment of patients with cancer.  Independent reports, including reports commissioned by the Chief Medical Officer led to radical changes in national standards of clinical practice and governance.

I have also advised nationally on issues arising from the retention of organs post mortem. The resulting government reports and summit called by the Chief Medical Officer led to important improvements in the law.
