Medical Law and Personal Injury (ML&PI)
Jackie is
an expert in clinical negligence and has an interest in risk
management and patient safety.
My Background
Trained and qualified Browne Jacobson, Eversheds 1998-2000.
Joined Bevan Brittan in 2000 as an Associate. Senior
Associate May 2007.
What I do
I manage a workload of mid and high value clinical
negligence files for the NHS Litigation Authority and
supervise a team of junior solicitors. I feel strongly about
achieving the right results for my clients and, being a
people person, I work with my clients to meet their needs
and goals. My approach to litigation is pragmatic,
pro-active and cost effective.
I am actively involved in the development of risk
management solutions to improve patient safety and provide
education for NHS Trust staff.
Some examples
I have resolved a number of high value claims for severely
damaged children where the issue of continued state funding
and recoupment of Local Authority outlay have been an issue.
I recently managed to resolution a claim where the Local
Authority as Second Defendant were seeking a declaration
that interest accrued on money in the court of protection
could be considered as income for means assessment.
Acted for Taunton & Somerset NHS Trust through the NHSLA in
the successfully defended obstetric negligence claim of
Smithers -v- Taunton & Somerset NHS Trust involving
competing clinical emergencies. The Judge accepted that
there are limited NHS funds and that these cannot cater for
every eventuality.
