What I do
I advise a broad range of public and private sector clients, including local authorities, regulators, NHS Trusts, schools and colleges of further education. I deal with all aspects of the employment relationship including contracts, policies and procedures, TUPE, reorganisations and redundancies, disciplinary and grievance matters, discrimination and handling employment tribunal cases.

I regularly provide employment law training through seminars and workshops.

Some examples
  • I advised a local authority in connection with a high profile case of constructive unfair dismissal, sex discrimination and trade union breaches brought by a female employee against the authority and its Leader, which was resolved through mediation and the Employment Tribunal proceedings were withdrawn.
  • I advised a local authority in relation to a claim for race discrimination and constructive unfair dismissal, in which allegations were made against senior officers of the authority. The claim was successfully defended and an award for costs against the claimant was secured.
  • I have advised on potential claims for unfair dismissal arising out of redundancy/ reorganisation and changing of terms and conditions, and I have advised regulators on the implementation of redundancy/assimilation exercises including consultation with trade unions, election of employee representatives and fair procedures.
  • I advise on the employment aspects of PFIs/PPPs concerning the refurbishment of schools, the building of hospitals and leisure centres and highways contracts; this includes advice on the application of the Workforce Code in Public Sector Service Contracts and advice on way to deal with TUPE issues where significant staff numbers are transferring from existing third party contractors.
  • I advise on secondment issues including drafting relevant documentation relating to the treatment of seconded employees during the period of their secondment; the effect of termination of the secondment and consequent restructuring issues when seconded employees return to their original employer.
