Jonathan specialises in commercial construction law, including procurement strategy and implementation together with contract advice and project management. He is classed as an 'Associate to Watch' in Chambers UK, A Client's Guide to the Legal Profession 2008.
My Background
Trained and qualified at Campbell Hooper, 1999-2003; Assistant at Bevan Ashford, 2003 - 2005; Associate at Bevan Brittan LLP, 2005-2008; Senior Associate at Bevan Brittan LLP, 2008 -.
What I do
My practice covers advising the client and all levels of the supply chain in relation to the drafting and negotiation of both standard and bespoke forms of building contracts, professional appointments, security documentation and development and funding agreements.
I am experienced in a variety of market sectors, with my main work being in transport, mixed-use regeneration, healthcare and education schemes. As well as more traditionally funded schemes, I have extensive experience in PFI/PPP projects and outsourcing arrangements.
One of my regular clients has very kindly summed up my approach: “He’s very good on the technical side, and commercial to boot. He delivers what we need.”
Some examples
- I am advising a local authority on the outsourcing of its highways maintenance and improvement services.
- I am advising the developer on a civils contract with a value of around £60m for site remediation/infrastructure and the construction of a 1 million cubic metre noise bund for the release of a £450m mixed-use development.
- I am advising the developer on each of its development agreements with the procuring authority and also on its remediation, infrastructure and construction contracts for 3 mixed-use regeneration sites, one on a former rail depot, one on a former shipyard and one which incorporates features which make it amongst the most sustainable development in Europe; these sites have development values of around £150m, £250m and £200m respectively.
- I am advising a health trust on its circa £350m hospital redevelopment which is one of the first health projects to come to market using the competitive dialogue procedure.
- I advised the successful bidding consortium on its construction requirements for the Newcastle BSF scheme.
