I am a senior associate in our clinical risk team. I specialise in high-value medical negligence claims for the NHSLA and NHS Trusts with a particular focus on neurological, neurosurgical and obstetric cases.
I represented the defendant in an important case for the NHS in the context of the management of competing emergencies, Lewis Smithers v Taunton & Somerset NHS Trust. LTL 3/6/2004, the successful defence of an obstetric claim.
I have more than 12 years' experience of representing a wide range of public bodies including NHS Trusts, local authorities and other self or mutually-insured bodies such as Railway Authorities and cruise and ferry lines. My work also includes advising on employers’ liability and public liability claims, insurance disputes and risk management issues.
I have considerable experience of using the Civil Procedural Rules to the defendant’s advantage and have mediated a number of claims on behalf of the NHSLA to a successful resolution.
In addition to my fee earning work, I am a regular contributor to the departmental newsletter and to quarterly reports to the NHSLA. I was also instrumental in the preparation and presentation of several modules for our Client Education program and was a speaker at the ALARM national conference in 2003.
