I am an associate in the clinical risk team specialising in clinical negligence and child protection law. I also regularly represent NHS Trusts at inquests.
In 1992, prior to joining Bevan Brittan, I qualified as a barrister and have extensive advocacy skills. I am also an expert in using mediation and alternative dispute resolution as a means to achieve settlement where appropriate.
My main practice area is clinical negligence and I have considerable experience advising in high value and complex cases, particularly involving claimants brain damaged through obstetric or neurosurgical treatment. It is very important to me to ensure that the staff involved in such cases are well supported and guided and that positive lessons are learned whenever possible.
I have been involved in developing innovative forms of indemnity in periodic payment structures to ensure the needs of severely brain injured children are met with a contribution from other appropriate providers.
My child law work involves working with NHS staff involved in public child protection litigation and private contact disputes, giving advice on evidence and information sharing. I have created targeted training seminars and workshops to provide comprehensive training for professionals working in the new children's landscape to help improve information sharing and understanding between those working in this sensitive area.
