• I am a commercial lawyer specialising in IP and ICT projects and contracts. Having originally started my career as an in-house lawyer within the utilities sector and subsequently undertaking a number of in-house secondment roles (including nine months with the Welsh Government), I have a keen understanding of the internal governance issues and drivers which surround major projects. This helps me provide pragmatic and commercially focussed advice to meet clients’ objectives.

    Publications

I have written several articles including:
New investment in Smart Cities and Places

    Seminars

I am often called on to run sessions on data protection, ICT contracts and procurement law matters at client sites.  Recently, I talked at the Housing Association of Wales Annual Event on the subject of data protection.

    Career Highlights

    • I led negotiations on the IT outsourcing arrangement for Natural England. The contract for the new body was worth over £400 million.
    • Advised on the procurement project to appoint an ICT company to assist Cardiff Council in managing its ongoing ICT services and the transformation of that service during the next 10 years. These ICT services were valued at over £115 million.

Richard Lane continues to work with both public and private sector clients across a range of IT law matters, including procurement and contractual matters.
