Bevan Brittan Associate appointed as Bristol Law Society President

Joanna Clarke, Associate at Bristol law firm Bevan Brittan has been appointed as the youngest President to take office at the Bristol Law Society.

Joanna, 31, is the third female President to be elected by the Society and was appointed following their Annual General Meeting in November. The Bristol Law Society was founded in 1770, and is acknowledged as being the longest established society in the country and serves solicitors and barristers throughout the South West.

After qualifying in 1998, Joanna joined Bevan Brittan (formerly Bevan Ashford) as an assistant in May 2000.  She specialised in real estate law and was promoted to Associate in May 2003. As a valued member of the real estate team she has worked on various high profile projects including NHS LIFT.

She is a former Vice President of the Bristol Law Society, a former Junior President and Chair of the Property Committee. Outside of work her charity commitments include working with Guide Dogs for the Blind, where she is a guide dog boarder and has so far looked after five dogs during their training.

Joanna commented:  “I am delighted to have been elected as President. I hope my appointment will encourage younger members of the profession to become more involved with the Society. I anticipate that this will be a year of change for the profession as we await the publication of the Clementi report, which is likely to dictate the direction for the future. I urge all solicitors in the region to ensure that every opportunity is taken to help shape our profession for the better and I eagerly await the challenges that this Presidency will bring.”

Stuart Whitfield, Bevan Brittan Chief Executive commented: “Joanna is a real asset to both the Society and Bevan Brittan.  I am pleased to see her work with the Society being acknowledged and I am confident she has the skills and experience to excel in her position as President. We fully support and admire her commitment.”
