The
Government’s new Pension Protection Fund (PPF) has
appointed national law firm Bevan Brittan as its
legal advisors.
The PPF, launched in April this year, was
established to pay compensation to members of
eligible defined benefit pension schemes, when there
is an insolvency event in relation to the employer
and there are insufficient assets in the pension
scheme to cover Pension Protection Fund levels of
compensation.
Bevan Brittan was originally appointed by the
Department for Work and Pensions in November 2004
following a competitive tender process. Having won
the tender, the firm advised the PPF on a wide range
of legal matters relating to the PPF's establishment
and has now been appointed in an ongoing role.
Heading up the team is partner
Bethan Evans, head of the firm’s division which
specialises in advising public sector bodies in
government. Bethan Evans is supported by pensions
partner,
Gary Delderfield, and employment partner and
head of the firm's London office
David
Widdowson.
Bethan Evans said: “We are delighted to have secured
an ongoing role with the Pension Protection Fund
following the work we have done in relation to its
establishment. The appointment marks another major
step forward for the firm.”
