retail and hotels

We have a depth of knowledge and experience specifically of the retail and hotels industries. We regularly work with clients in overcoming the challenges of acquiring, developing and operating retail outlets and hotels. Our broader practice enables us to understand how these industries necessarily operate as part of the wider economic community and environment.

Involvement in a retail or hotel development from the early stages enables our lawyers to give strategic and commercially astute advice regarding procurement and construction issues. We will always keep in mind our client’s primary goals in a development or refurbishment, namely the achievement of a project delivered on time and within budget.

Examples of our work include:

  • advising AIB on the development of two major airport hotels at Heathrow and Gatwick
  • advising Clydesdale Bank on the site acquisition and development of a hotel and resort complex in Cornwall
  • advising Golden Tulip UK on site acquisition and development
  • advising the developer of a 200 room Central London hotel on site acquisition, development, construction, planning and the agreement for a lease by a major hotel operator
  • advising Future Inns on the development of its new hotel at Broadmead, Bristol
  • advising Splendid Hotels Group on a range of issues in relation to a number of hotel sites
  • advising a number of London hotels on the refurbishment and extension of established sites particularly in relation to issues of site access, partial possession, phased works and programming/completion dates
  • advising various hotels on diverse risk management issues and disputes, including late completion of works, rights of light and ownership/title
  • advising a national construction company on a joint venture arrangement to design, build and operate a chain of budget hotels
  • acting for an international sportswear retailer on the refurbishment of its central London flagship store
