We advise on the full spectrum of discrimination issues whether in the employment setting, in the context of the provision of goods and services, or in a regulatory context.
In particular, we work with our wide public sector client base to assist public sector clients to meet their positive duties to promote Equality and Diversity not only amongst staff but, more broadly, throughout their services and functions. These duties are all the more prominent in light of the Equality Act 2010, which places the promotion of equality & diversity at the heart of decision-making for public bodies.
We regularly advise the health and social care sector on complex issues relating to access to services for all sections of the community. For example, we recently acted for a PCT on the issue of whether the historic relationship of commissioning services from a local Christian charity would be compliant with equality & diversity obligations in relation to religion and belief and sexual orientation. Within local government, the impact of organisational changes such as restructuring, reducing pay and outsourcing on equalities is increasingly in the spotlight and we advise our clients to ensure that their decision making and process are robust should a challenge arise.
We represent all our clients in all types of discrimination claims in the Employment Tribunal, EAT and higher courts including high value and career loss claims, as well as representing clients in County and High Court proceedings in non-employment law cases.
We offer practical workshop-style training on equality & diversity, tailored to meet the needs of the organisation, whether on a strategic level for Board members or for operational application.
