IT outsourcing and support services

Outsourcing of IT services takes a wide variety of forms but many of the key issues are common to all outsourcings. All organisations considering outsourcing solutions will need to balance the benefits offered by certainty of cost and levels of service against possible issues relating to employee relations (and TUPE), corporate knowledge and control. Although IT is often a "non-core" function, virtually all modern organisations rely to some greater or lesser extent on the availability and reliability of IT systems, and so IT outsourcing is not undertaken lightly. In addition, the pace of change in the field of IT means that any long-term outsourcing agreement must be sufficiently flexible to support customer requirements but maintain supplier revenues and profits.
