Bevan Brittan has advised a leading care home group on its long-term partnership which will fund the development and operation of care homes across England.

The Bevan Brittan team advised the Anavo Group on its partnership with Octopus Real Estate. Through the partnership, Octopus has just funded the acquisition of Brampton Lodge, a purpose-built elderly care home in Warrington, Cheshire and the development by Anavo of 66-bed home in Lancing, West Sussex which is scheduled to open in 2024. Anavo will operate both homes on 35-year indexed leases.

Sarah Skuse, a partner and corporate real estate lawyer who led the Bevan Brittan team advising Anavo on the transaction, said: “We were delighted to advise Anavo on this exciting partnership with Octopus Real Estate, which will undoubtedly result in the much-needed development of many new fantastic care homes for the elderly across the country.”

Edward Moore, director at Anavo Group, said: “Bevan Brittan provide a best-in-class service for our Group offering a wide range of commercially astute advice. Their breadth of operational and development care sector specific knowledge allows us to feel confident that we are well placed regarding any transaction that we undertake.”

He added: “The team at Octopus has a deep understanding of the care sector, and this partnership will allow us to further develop our portfolio and provide exceptional service to residents across the UK.

“Our care homes aim to enhance quality of life, treat people as individuals and enable residents to maintain their personal choices and independence. We pride ourselves on providing a warm, friendly and homely environment where residents are cared for with dignity and compassion, values that I know we share with Octopus.”

Real Estate partner Sarah Skuse and Corporate Partner Monica Macheng lead a cross-departmental team assisted by Senior Associates Sarah Newton, Maria Fert, Peter Francis and Associate Tanveer Rashid.

In June, the firm won the prestigious ‘Legal Advisors of the Year – Transactional’ category for the third consecutive year at the Health Investor Awards and the ‘Legal Advisors of the Year – Private’ award.
