UK-Top 100 law firm Bevan Brittan is donating £40,000 across its nominated local office charities this Christmas, with each charity receiving £10,000 towards the causes they support throughout the year.

The donations will go towards providing vital services provided by four UK charities across a broad range of causes including homelessness, cancer care and incurable illness.

After a particularly challenging year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has severely restricted fundraising activities and caused many shops to close, many charities are facing a financial shortfall.

Colleagues in our offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds and London nominated the following charities to receive the £10,000 donation. Many of the charities are chosen due to personal connections with members of staff and their families:

  • Bowel Cancer UK (Birmingham): £10,000 will ensure that everyone affected by bowel cancer has someone to lean on during these troubling times and can access trusted information and support. It will also support vital bowel cancer research to help secure the advances that are so desperately needed.
  • St Peter’s Hospice (Bristol): £10,000 can help to keep the 24-hour Hospice Advice Line – which has seen a 100.3% increase in calls since the start of the pandemic – open for two weeks.
  • Maggie’s Yorkshire (Leeds): £10,000 will fund four full days of support in the centre including face to face, phone and virtual support.
  • Crisis (London): the donation will go towards their Christmas and year-round housing services as part of the Connect for Crisis campaign.

Commenting on the donations, the firm’s Head of Community Engagement, Partner, Mark Calverley, said:

“I am delighted that we are able to offer some extra support after what has been a very challenging year for charities and the people they look after. £10,000 will make a real difference to the lives of many at Christmas. Whether that’s keeping support lines open or offering a lifeline to those without a home to go to this Christmas, these are truly worthy causes that we are proud to support.

“Community engagement is a big part of our culture at the firm and we play an active role in each of our four local office communities, through both individual and collective fundraising activities as well as pro bono work. We will look forward to continuing to fundraise and support our local office charities in 2021.”
