Louise’s story: ‘I like the variety of work, variety of clients and how the firm is supportive of growing my team’
Legal Director Louise Mansfield joined Bevan Brittan in 2022 and has been impressed by the firm’s ambitions, its friendliness and its sense of purpose. Here, she discusses her experiences.
I am part of the Criminal Regulatory and Compliance team and we support a whole host of different organisations and businesses – including local authorities, healthcare providers, housing, manufacturers and the construction sector. A lot of our work is around health and safety and corporate manslaughter, both contentious and non-contentious advisory work but we also cover all other criminal regulatory areas, such as building safety, fire safety, transport regulation, contentious environmental and product safety.
This means advising clients on how to comply with the law, and hopefully never be prosecuted. We do however also prosecute on behalf of local authorities and fire authorities so we get to be on both sides.
Our work is in the criminal courts which means we get to do criminal work but acting for corporates
I have enjoyed many aspects of my time at Bevan Brittan. I joined from a large international firm and I like the type of work we do at Bevan Brittan and the varied client base, and the size of the firm means that I can build close working relationships with loads of my colleagues which I really like. I have been impressed by the ambition of the firm to grow and specifically to support the development of my team - this is an area of work that the firm hasn’t done historically but is very supportive of developing as it is a key area that many of our clients will need support with.
But it is the attitude of the firm and the people that work for it that I like best. Everybody is really approachable from the top down – really kind, really friendly, really nice to work with. This is why I took the job in the first place, because that was the sense I got during my interviews. The firm is also supportive of flexible working and ensuring people have a work life balance.
