This half day seminar will focus on the practical and legal steps that Trusts, Foundation Trusts and other NHS bodies can take to maximise the opportunities presented by surplus estate. It will build on the information contained in the Bevan Brittan Disposals Toolkit, using a number of real life examples and case study discussions.

The Naylor Review identifies an opportunity for the NHS to realise between £2bn and £5.7bn of receipts from effective disposals of surplus estate. This vital capital represents an important source of funding for the implementation of Sustainability and Transformation Plans.

The review also suggests that "2 for 1" matched funding may be available for organisations disposing of surplus estate, but on a first come first served basis, with further details to be provided.

Sir Robert suggests that the full extent of the opportunity will only be realised if Trusts and FTs take a commercial approach to disposal. We will consider what this means, the disposal process generally, obstacles to maximising value and alternatives to traditional land sales.

We will also discuss how a disposal and reinvestment pipeline might be managed across an STP patch.
