  • Part of our Higher Education Team's spring webinar series

    Webinar | Wednesday 25 March 2026 | 12:00 - 13:00 | 1 Hour

The proposed Public Office (Accountability) Bill, better known as Hillsborough Law, represents a radical shift in how public authorities and officials in the UK are held accountable. Higher education institutions and their employees will be subject to new statutory duties designed to embed honesty and transparency into public life, in some cases enforceable by criminal sanctions.

In this webinar, Claire Leonard, Partner at Bevan Brittan, and Katie Fudakowski, Barrister at Old Square Chambers, will provide an overview of the proposed changes and consider the implications for Higher Education providers. They will discuss practical tips for navigating the new legal framework including when independent investigations may be appropriate, how investigative processes are likely to be scrutinised under the new framework, and what this means for universities seeking to demonstrate compliance.

    Key topics include:

    • Overview of the Bill and the new duties
    • Implications for Higher Education providers
    • Governance considerations and ensuring compliance
    • The role of internal and independent investigations under the new framework
    • Questions and discussion

This is the second event in our spring series of higher education webinars.
