I specialise in health and social care law and regulation, with many of my clients being providers of care services, either in the NHS, independent or not-for profit sectors.
I provide clients with advice on issues concerning the Mental Health Act, the Human Rights Act, the Mental Capacity Act and the Care Act.
I previously represented patients in the First-tier Tribunal (Mental Health) which has equipped me with a detailed understanding of psychiatric practice and the needs of clinicians for clear and realistic advice in managing complex and challenging situations. I am also an Accredited Legal Representative and in my previous role I was regularly instructed by the Official Solicitor in often complex Court of Protection cases.
The interface of mental health and mental capacity law is a particular area of interest. I am member of the Law Society’s Mental Health and Disability committee and was a member of the subcommittee for the review of the Mental Health Act and contributed to producing the Law society’s response to the review. I am also an external assessor for the Law society’s Mental Health accreditation scheme.
I am an experienced advocate and have regularly represented clients in the First-tier Tribunal (Mental Health), County Court and Court of Protection. I also have experience in representing health providers at inquests. I regularly deliver training to mental health and acute clinicians as well as legal teams.
