2025 has been a landmark year for HR professionals, shaped by the ambitious and fast-moving reforms introduced under the Employment Rights Bill which is still moving between the houses of parliament in a tense game of ping pong. With implementation soon to be upon us, employers must act swiftly to prepare, ensuring compliance and mitigating risk in a rapidly evolving legal landscape.
This session offered a practical and comprehensive overview of the reforms that immediately come into force once, or are due to be in force shortly after the passing of the Bill, including the repeal of the Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Act 2023, extension of automatic unfair dismissal rights in relation to the participation in industrial action, as well as changes to the Trade Union Act 2016. We explored the latest government consultations and outlined the policy direction signalled by recent announcements. We also looked at the next trench of reform which is due to be brought into force in the Spring of 2026, including day one rights to parental leave, changes to statutory sick pay, and changes to whistleblowing legislation. Our panel also reviewed key employment case law from the past six months, highlighting implications for your organisation and workforce strategy.
