Bevan Brittan advises on the completion of a £40m Waste Collection and Cleansing services contract between the Isle of Anglesey County Council and Biffa Waste Services.
The contract is for an initial 8-year term and was signed in July 2020. Biffa will start delivering services under the new contract in April 2021.
Over the last 18 months, our market leading Waste and Resource Management team advised on the contract, procurement and commercial matters. The team includes sector specialists Thomas Graham (Solicitor), Olivia Blessington (Senior Associate) and Phil Roberts (Associate). A broader multi-disciplinary team from Bevan Brittan advised on procurement, employment and pensions issues.
We also advised on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the parties’ contractual obligations and included a bespoke COVID-19 relief mechanism within the contract.
Nadeem Arshad, lead Partner on the project and Head of Energy and Resource Management commented:
“We are delighted to have advised on this project which will lead to continued high recycling performance on the island of Anglesey and contribute to the net zero carbon agenda.
This project is further evidence of the strength in depth and expertise of our waste and resource management team. It demonstrates our ability to guide projects in this sector to a successful completion amidst the ongoing challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Meirion Edwards, Chief Waste Management Officer at Isle of Anglesey County Council commented:
“We appointed Bevan Brittan to advise the Authority on legal, commercial and employment/pensions advice. As an Authority, we were very impressed by Bevan Brittan’s professionalism and overall sound advice, their insight and flexibility during the COVID-19 global pandemic - these were essential criteria to reach a successful agreement with Biffa Waste Services.”
