Market leaders in Strategic Energy Partnerships

We are one of the leading national legal advisers on strategic energy partnerships – a growing and increasingly important area of energy work. Examples of our work in this area include:

    • Advised a leading UK energy company on their bid for the £1 billion Bristol City Leap project, an ambitious project which aims to make Bristol a zero-carbon and smart energy city by 2030 and to deliver up to £1 billion of investment. It involved the delivery of low carbon energy infrastructure, such as solar PV, heat networks, heat pumps and energy efficiency measures at scale. It also included opportunities to establish an EV charging infrastructure business.
    • Advised a major infrastructure provider in their bid to become the City of Coventry’s Strategic Energy Partner, forming an alliance aimed at transforming the city into a cleaner and more sustainable environment that will drive the green economy, create new jobs and increase skills all while reducing energy costs for residents.
    • Advising Perth and Kinross Council to develop a long-term Strategic Energy Partnership with a private sector partner for the delivery of multiple strategic energy and low carbon projects in order to help Perth & Kinross meet its net zero ambitions by 2045. This innovative Strategic Energy Partnership will be the first of its kind in Scotland and could form the blueprint for other partnerships in the UK. Bevan Brittan worked collaboratively with Anderson Stathern to provide specialist support services to provide legal advice on the procurement and structure of the Strategic Energy Partnership and related commercial models to deliver a range of heat network and energy projects.
    • We are part of a consortium of consultants advising the North Yorkshire Combined Authority (CA), along with North Yorkshire Council and City of York Council, on the development of a strategic energy partnership under the DESNZ-funded Local Net Zero Accelerator (LNZA) pilot initiative. The CA and its partners are exploring options to develop a regional solution that will make a substantial contribution to achieving York and North Yorkshire’s carbon negative ambition whilst also delivering economic growth and benefits to communities. Alongside the technical, financial and commercial advisors we are advising the CA, North Yorkshire Council and City of York Council on the development of a public-sector led regional delivery model, a sustainable funding model and an investable pipeline of net zero projects.
    • Advising a private sector infrastructure provider (Meridiam) on its successful bid to Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS foundation Trust strategic decarbonisation partnership tender for provision of energy as a service. We have advised them on navigating the procurement process and negotiation of the suite of documents. The initial anchor project under the framework is for the replacement of the existing heat network at St Thomas’, which they will deliver with their partner Dalkia Energy Services

Our above experience is underpinned by our work in partnerships generally. Our significant knowledge and experience of providing expert advice to Government Departments, the wider public sector, private sector, third sector and funders, is demonstrated through our successful delivery of over 150 strategic partnerships in the last 15 years. We are recognised as market leaders, by our clients, in legal directories and through our wider accreditation.

We have a balanced portfolio of advising a broad spectrum of stakeholders. This 360° experience provides us with an in-depth understanding of the legal and commercial issues enabling us to support on delivering commercially viable public and private partnerships.
