Bevan Brittan’s Leeds office has thrown its weight behind the battle against child poverty after choosing to support a Yorkshire-based charity which works to ensure young people have a bed to sleep in.
The national law firm’s Yorkshire team have selected Zarach as their new Office Charity and will work with the organisation to support them in their mission to end child bed poverty. The Hunslet-based organisation aims to provide 1,000 beds a year nationally and partners with schools as part of its ‘Every Head a Bed’ campaign.
Bevan Brittan’s Leeds-based colleagues will assist with both fundraising and volunteering, including the delivery of beds to local children living in poverty. Zarach’s annual Christmas appeal will also see the firm’s colleagues packing boxes of goodies for children.
The Leeds team were asked to nominate their next Office Charity after their partnership with Leeds Women’s Aid came to an end. Zarach was shortlisted by the office’s Community Engagement Committee and chosen following a presentation.
Julie Cowan-Clark, a Partner and Community Engagement Lead for Bevan Brittan in Leeds, said: “It is hard for us all to believe that, in this day and age, some children don’t have a bed to sleep in. But, that is the reality Zarach work with every day and we are determined to help them.
“There is such an opportunity for us to make a difference here, not just with fundraising but also with rolling up our sleeves and helping on the ground.
“It’s exciting to see this charity spreading its influence too. It isn’t just about Leeds, as we can help in Bradford, other parts of West Yorkshire and potentially further afield in the North East. It is a perfect opportunity for us and one which all of the team is really excited about.”
The other new Office Charities that will also benefit from Bevan Brittan’s support include Age UK Birmingham and homelessness charity Thames Reach in London.
Bevan Brittan’s Leeds team has grown significantly in the past few months and recently moved past the 100-colleague mark for the first time. Nine of the Yorkshire team were promoted recently and the firm has also recruited three senior hires to the office in the past 12 months.
