A West Midlands organisation which supports older people and carers is set for a funding boost after it was chosen to be Bevan Brittan’s new Birmingham Office Charity.
The national law firm’s Midlands team will provide fundraising and volunteering support to Age UK Birmingham, which offers services to older people across the entire city council area.
The assistance will enable the charity to continue with its programme of events for older people, including memory care for those living with dementia, activity sessions and social groups to help tackle loneliness and isolation.
It also offers support to unpaid family carers in Birmingham, information and advice for older people and their families and wellbeing activities such as walking and friendship groups.
Colleagues in Bevan Brittan’s Birmingham office were asked to nominate their next Office Charity after their partnership with InUnity came to an end. Age UK Birmingham was shortlisted by the office’s Community Engagement Committee and chosen following a presentation.
Julia Jones, a Partner and Community Engagement Lead for Bevan Brittan in Birmingham, said: “We were really impressed with the innovative ideas that Age UK Birmingham had, as well as the fundraising and volunteering projects of all sizes which we could get involved in. All of their ideas gave us a real impression that this will be a true collaboration where we can play a part in helping older people and carers.
“It is really important to everyone here in Birmingham and across the wider business that we play a role in the communities in which we operate. This is a fantastic opportunity to support another great organisation and it builds on the support we were able to give InUnity.”
Steve Thomson, Chief Executive Officer for Age UK Birmingham, said: “We are delighted to be chosen by Bevan Brittan as their Birmingham office charity. We are really looking forward to working with the team to provide much needed support to local older people, their families and carers.”
The other new Office Charities that will also benefit from Bevan Brittan’s support include Zarach in Leeds and homelessness charity Thames Reach in London.
The firm’s Birmingham team has grown significantly and moved into new offices in 45 Church Street last year. Three colleagues, including two who joined as trainees, were recognised in the recent round of promotions, while the firm has also made six senior hires in the Midlands across the past 12 months.
